ok... i don't think there's *anyone* on ratsa who doesn't know i
hate boobie, but guys, i have to agree with jeff on this point. i
_assume_ that in this reply, he wasn't referring to those of us who
simply mention that she was once a hooker, but to the few who have put
her down *BECAUSE* she was once a hooker. only a *few* people have
expressed this point of view, but jeff wasn't the only one who's
noticed the posts- i have, too.

to clarify: i DON'T agree that "many women here" dislike her for this
reason. but there *have* been a small number of people who've stated
the character's former profession as why they disliked her, or who
have said things to the effect of "how can you expect an ex-hooker to
know how to be faithful", "once a whore, always a whore", etc. i
haven't seen MANY posts like this, but i *have* seen some. BTW- of
the relevant posts, i recall at least 2 that weren't from women, but
from *men*.

the vast majority of people here *don't* rag on boobie for having
been a pro, or if we do mention it, it's done with *humour*. hey,
we've got plenty of great reasons to hate her without bashing a loong
ago career choice that boobie, for whatever reason, had to/chose to
make. but i *have* seen a few posts in which people were slamming
the boobstress simply *because* she'd been a prostitute, and they
weren't being funny. i find that very disturbing, even if i only see
a post of that nature on rare occasions.

on a related note ...and lord, i *REALLY* didn't want to get involved
in this, but...

IM(Rarely)HO, jeff is taking an inordinate amount of crap from a few
people here. it's one thing to flame someone, but don't you think
that some people have crossed *way* over the generally accepted
usenet/2004/usenet boundries with him (and jean, i'm not referring to this post,
but to several threads i've seen this year)??? and rats_, in
particular, is *usually* a very friendly group.

you may like jeff, or you might not -that's just fine. and you may or
may not like the *way he says things* -that's just fine, too. but
would some of you *really* flame anyone else in the same way that
you flame him?

as an example: if *i* -a regular poster here (and one not only *with*
a uterus, but with, until a few years ago, *two* of them;)- had said
that people don't like bobbie because of her past, what would the
response have been? most likely, people would have disagreed with me,
right? but would they have *skewered* me? no, i really doubt they
would have. i've posted my share of unpopular opinions here, and i've
been disagreed with, but i've never been flamed (although i suspect
that might change today...;).

when people disagree here, we usually *discuss* things. but if "the
jeff character" (which is a pretty rude thing to call *anyone*, don't
you think?) expresses an unpopular sentiment -or even *phrases*
something in a way some people don't like- it's time to bring out the
net.marshmallows, cuz a net.bonfire is never far away.

jeff may have earned a few flames over the last several months. but
if he weren't related to such a well loved GH actor (or, arguably,
even if he was the *sister* of the same actor), would we REALLY give
him so much shit??? i know he can defend himself just fine, but i
don't like it that he's been singled out because of 'who he is' (or
'who we think he should be as jon's brother'. we don't even *know
jon*, we only know the characters he plays on television, and his
public persona). many would disagree with jeff on certain points, no
matter *who* he was related to, but i sincerely doubt we'd be treating
him with the disrespect that some here have done.

just my thoughts for the day. i'm sure they won't win me any
popularity contests. that's ok :) "...once again, that email address
is diva@interlog.com."
