Lynne Spears: 'Fame Hasn't Changed Britney'

13 August 2002

The mother of pop princess Britney Spears has hit out at media reports accusing the sexy singer of being a demanding diva.

The star has embarked on a six month hiatus from the music scene, after a traumatic year in which she has split from long-term love Justin Timberlake and witnessed the break-up of her parents' marriage.

Britney was booed by fans at the London premiere of her movie Crossroads and again by devotees in Mexico city last month when she cut short a gig because of a lightening storm - amid rumours of a slump in record sales and dwindling fan base.

But Lynne Spears insists three years at the top of the charts haven't changed her superstar daughter. In a message on the singer's official website, she says, "Britney's six month vacation is here! Yay! She loves to be able to wake up when she wants and decide what she chooses to do each day. There's no hair and make-up to sit through. Instead of catering, she has home cooking."

"Fame and fortune hasn't blemished Britney. She still enjoys the same simple pleasures with the same family and friends." (WENN)

- - - - - - - - Strained Relations For The Doors 13 August 2002

A rift has opened up amongst the remaining members of legendary LA rockers The Doors over the use of their songs in advertising. Currently preparing for their comeback tour with a rotating line up of guest vocalists filling the late Jim Morrison's shoes, drummer John Densmore has voiced his concerns over keyboard player Ray Manzarek's stance on the issue. Well known throughout the sixties for their anti-authoritarian outlook, Densmore has criticised Manzarek's desire to allow Doors songs to soundtrack advertisements.

Densmore is vehemently opposed to allowing any Doors material to be associated with consumer goods, in line with Morrison's wishes, however Manzarek favours licensing some material. The financial incentives of allowing Doors material to be used are enormous. Apple computers offered US $1.5m to use When The Music's Over for their new campaign. Fortunately for Densmore it was decided years ago that band decisions should be taken en masse. He says, "Thank God that back in 1965, Jim said that we should split everything, and everyone has veto power." Densmore adds, "I'm clear that we shouldn't do it. We don't need the money. But I get such pressure from one particular bandmate (the one who wears glasses and plays keyboards) (Manzarek)."

Densmore also has little time for the international rock stars of today who allow their music to be associated with products. He says, "Pete Townshend keeps fooling us again selling Who songs to yuppies hungry for SUV's. I hope Sting has given those shaman chiefs he hangs out with from the rainforest a ride in the back of that Jaguar he's advertising, because the car is a gas-guzzler." (WENN)

- - - - - - - - Foo Fighters Still Together 13 August 2002

Despite widespread speculation, US rock sensations Foo Fighters have not split up and will mark their return with a killer new single 'All My Life' which Dave Grohl warns will "shred your arse"!

Set to be the most anticipated rock release of the year, the Foo Fighters fourth album titled 1 X 1 has just been confirmed for worldwide release on October 23. Grohl explains to NME "I'm more excited about this album than anything. I'm really out of my head about it".

After his brief stint touring with the Queens of The Stone Age delayed the recording of the new album, combined with the rest of the band's various sideline projects such as Chris's band Viva Death and Nate's film involvement, rumours abounded that the Foo's had been put on an indefinite hiatus. But Grohl explains, "There was never any talk of breaking up. It was just personal life decisions. Going off made the new Foo Fighters record ten times better than it was six months ago". (WENN)

- - - - - - - - Dr. Dre To Drop The Mic 13 August 2002

Hip Hop super-producer and the man behind Eminem, Dr Dre is going to retire. The controversial artist is to give up rapping to focus on his production work after he completes his forthcoming third album.

A hip-hop musical, Detox is to be Dre's most ambitious album to date. He says, "I've been blueprinting, getting ideas together for the past six months or so, just trying to figure out which direction I want to take and how I'm gonna present the project. I want this one to be really over the top."

Industry insiders have greeted Dre's announcement of retirement with some scepticism. A source told British music bible New Musical Express, "I have yet to actually see someone (in hip-hop) retire and not come back to the game." (WENN)

- - - - - - - - Enrique Iglesias' Anna Lovenest 13 August 2002

Enrique Iglesias has splashed out $7.5 million on a lovenest for himself and sexy tennis babe Anna Kournikova.

The pair, who met - and kissed - when she starred in Enrique's "Escape" video, are planning to shack up in the gorgeous Hollywood home as soon as it's finished. Enrique's been spotted at the house while builders work on it.

A friend says, "It's going to be a spectacular home with five bedrooms, a swimming pool, gym, indoor cinema and a recording studio."

"There is enough land for a tennis court but Enrique has not decided whether he should put one in yet." (WENN)

- - - - - - - - Britney Loses Her Innocence 13 August 2002

Britney Spears' mother admits her once innocent pop star has been corrupted - by the media.

The sexy singer - who was thrust into the limelight in 1999 with her debut single "Baby, One More Time" - has suffered an onslaught of negative press in recent months.

The clean-cut star was accused of neglecting fans at the London premiere of her debut movie Crossroads in March and incensed the crowd at a concert in Mexico last month when she cut short the gig because of a lightning storm.

The 20-year-old singer has also come under increasing fire for comments she made earlier in her career, vowing to remain chaste until she married, combined with photographs of her smoking and reports of her underage drinking.

Britney's mum Lynne Spears now says the star has been left damaged by the negative press - and, in a posting on the singer's website britneyspears.com, she has accused the media of robbing her daughter of her innocence.

Spears senior says, "Britney no longer sees the world through rose-colored glasses. She's had too many glimpses of the vices of humanity, mostly in the press. We wonder what they will come up with next!" (WENN)

- - - - - - - - Aerosmith Star Has New OJ Information 13 August 2002

Aerosmith rocker Steven Tyler is so fascinated by the OJ Simpson murder case he's convinced he has exclusive insider information.

The rocker followed the case in 1994 and 1995, and the arrest of actor Robert Blake, accused of murdering his own wife Bonnie Lee Bakely, has refuelled his interest.

Tyler alleges he has information suggesting Simpson, who was controversially acquitted of the murders of his wife Nicole Brown and her lover, was suffering from toxic psychosis syndrome when he was arrested.

Tyler tells America's urban culture magazine Complex, "If they'd given OJ a drug test the minute he walked in there they would have found out he had what's called toxic psychosis."

"I talked to a therapist in Los Angeles that went to the jail with OJ's lawyers and sat in a cell with him because they were looking for a contingency plan if he did get busted - then they would be able to plead insanity."

"They got a professional drug guy in there and apparently he told me it was toxic psychosis syndrome - so much cocaine and all that s*** in you." (WENN)

- - - - - - - - Wedding Plans Are Stressing Gavin Rossdale Out 13 August 2002

Bush star Gavin Rossdale is stressing out over his planned September wedding to Gwen Stefani because he's determined to make sure their big day is extra special.

The rocker admits he could do without the constant attention of paparazzi photographers trying to capture the couple's most intimate moments.

He says, "We were sitting in an outdoor cafe in London a few days ago with our dog, trying to be subtle while having lunch, and we realised four cars had pulled up and six lenses were aimed at us."

"I said to Gwen, 'I know, why don't you stab me with your fork and give them something interesting to photograph.' It's tough because I don't want to be stressed out for the wedding. That's so unsexy. I want to enjoy it and have fun, but I'm also trying to do it the right way."

"We're doing things like deciding which wine goes with this and that, and working on the guest list. It's very daunting because it's like the guest list of life - you don't want to screw up and leave anyone out."

And Rossdale is determined to make sure his marriage is a lasting one. He adds, "Instead of whirlwind romances, celebrities have whirlwind marriages these days." (WENN)
