Starve Event (1997)
Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr. particpating in the 1997 Boston Starve Event

Participants will choose particular Starve Instructions from the collection in  Starve. They will then enlarge two of the chosen instructions onto 8’’x11’’ sheets of paper called Starve Sheets. Make multiple copies of the Starve Sheets.  Distribute the Starve Sheets throughout the city in office buildings, schools, shopping centers, car windshields at super-markets, and inside magazines, books, record stores, and video stores. Only the instructions will appear on the Starve Sheets.

This event should take no longer than 3 days and will be documented on video-tape,  and 35 mm film.

Within 3 weeks of this event, participants can combine their resources to purchase full page, half page, and quarter page ads in local newspapers reading the chosen Starve Instructions” and, if desired,  showing images from the Starve Sheet Distribution.
Other possible media are billboards, park benches, and the sides of city buses.
