Week 1 - The Shot
Shot composition, continuity shooting, angles. Overview of media practices in contemporary art.
Week1 slides.

Week 2 - The Edit
L-cutting, jump-cutting, montage, propaganda, transitions.

Week 3 – Authenticity
Documentary filmmaking, cinema-verite, mockumentary, Reality TV, staged-reenactments.

Week 4 - Radical
Films and media works functioning as activist/political/propaganda material. Works of public-intervention and documentation as media practice. Also, meta-cinema, Narration, Direct Address, breaking the 4th wall.

Week 5 - Movement
Examinig works of dance and other performative practice as media phenomena.

Week 6 – Listen
Sound art, sound design, and the role of listening as media-maker.

Midterm Exam – handed out during lecture - Due at the beginning of lecture next week

Week 7 – Tactical
Time-based media in real-time, real-space, public-space, personal space.
Mid-Term Exam due at beginning of lecture.

Mid-Term VIDEO due in section.

Week 8 - Abstraction
Formal & conceptual abstraction in media. Technology as abstraction.

Week 9 – Remix
Appropriation and Found Footage, copyright issues, conceptual issues/concerns

Week 10 - Space
Space as allegory, abstract-field, and speculative subject.

Final Exam – handed out during lecture. Due during Final Exam Period.
